Buying Trips to Japan

There is no experience quite like selecting your own Nishikigoi directly from the farms of Ojiya, Niigata. Wakoi Fish organises small-group buying trips to Japan, giving serious enthusiasts and dealers exclusive access to top-tier breeders that are otherwise closed to the public.

What to Expect

Our trips are intimate, expert-led experiences. You will visit 8–12 of the most respected farms in Ojiya, Niigata, Japan, see koi at all stages of development, and work directly with our team to select fish that meet your specific criteria. We handle all logistics including farm introductions, translation, and export documentation — you focus on choosing your fish.

Trip Schedule

Buying trips typically run for 5–7 days and are scheduled twice a year — once in late spring (May/June) during the mud pond harvest season, and once in autumn (October/November) when the season's best fish are available. Group sizes are limited to 6–8 participants to maintain quality access and a personal experience.

How to Join

Buying trips are available to registered Wakoi Fish customers and approved dealers. To express interest in our next trip, please contact us with your experience level, variety preferences, and approximate budget. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and fill quickly.
